Ramon Contreras Obituary

Ramon P. Contreras (Popo) was granted his angel wings and went to rest in the arms of the Lord on September 4, 2017. Ramon was born September 12, 1943 in Pecos, Texas to the late Jesus and Elia Contreras. He retired from the US Postal Service after 23 years. With Ramon's passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, he will forever remain in our hearts. With his courage he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. As he always told everyone, the one lady that ever stole his heart was his loving wife of 55 years, Tencha Contreras. There was never a time that you would see one without the other. The love they shared was one of a kind. He dedicated his life and love to his wife every loving moment. He continuously poured his love out to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He never missed a T-ball game, flag football game or school function. Popo always made sure that he was at every one of his grandchildren's event and that he was heard cheering them on as their biggest fan! Ramon was such a devoted catholic and shared his passion of God, with his family and anyone he met. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, hospital ministry and assisted the Alter Society with cleaning Our Lady of Guadalupe. He never met a stranger; everyone was his friend or became part of his family. He embraced many and called them his nephews, nieces and grandchildren. Many knew and called him "Popo". Ramon is survived by his loving wife, Tencha Contreras; daughter Gigi Gutierrez and husband Hector, son Tony Contreras and wife Alicia, and daughter Tina Bautista and husband Enrique (Ricky). Grandchildren: Danyale Diaz and husband Marcus, Gabriel Bautista and wife Laura, Isaac Gutierrez, Michael Contreras and wife Ashley, and Yvonne Contreras. Great-grandchildren: Talon and Caleb Diaz, Xavian and Xander Bautista, and Kataleya and Felicity Contreras. Sister Anita Flores and husband Raul. Aunt Socorro Bustamante and husband Ramon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Elia Contreras, and grandson Nicholas Gutierrez. A memorial rosary will be held tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral mass celebrating his life will be Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Grotto, following the burial service at Serenity Memorial Gardens.
