Johnny Staples Obituary

Johnny (Pops) Staples, 71 of Midland, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. He was originally from Houston where he owned & operated J & S construction until his retirement. His was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church of Houston and was baptized at the age of 10. Johnny was very active in the church; he loved the Lord.

After retirement, Johnny decided to move to Midland with family niece Debbie Tarlton & husband Brent. He then went back to work to stay busy for Master Truck and Trailer. His son went to work there and his great grandson Justin wants to work there when he is old enough. Johnny would say it's a "family tradition"! Though he loved his Master Truck and Trailer Family, he retired again from there and started volunteering at the Midland Soup Kitchen. He was the first one you seen when you enter the door greeter! He became friends with all that entered. He immediately claimed Jason & Nancy Ivy & sons Jay & Nathen as his family! He looked forward everyday to Jason Ivy blessing him with the word!

Johnny is survived by his son, Johnny Duane Staples of Midland; Daughter, Kimberly Staples Hamilton of Kountz, TX; Grandchildren, April Chick of Brownwood, TX, Austin Chick of Early, TX, Justin & Jordyn Staples of Kountz, TX, Codie Staples of Lumberton, TX and Brittany Staples Owen of Spring, TX; Great grandchildren, Andraya Lillian & Bre'Lynn Estrada of Brownwood, TX and Alaina Grace Owen of Spring, TX.

He is also survived by his two sisters, Nancy Terry of Midland, TX and Shirley Bodin of Copperas Cove, TX; two brothers, James Staples & wife Judy of Houston, TX and Billy Bob also of Houston, TX; and a special nephew, Wayne Terry of Midland, TX.

Viewing will be Thursday, February 14th from 9:00am - 2:00pm with a receiving of friends from 2:00pm -3:00pm at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:30pm Thursday afternoon at Serenity Memorial Gardens with Jason Ivy officiating.
