James A. Harris, 77, of Midland, passed away Friday, November 4, 2016. He was born on January 8, 1939 in Avinger, Texas to the late Johnny and Pearline Harris. As a young man, he went to work for the Permian Corporation and later for Ashland, Inc. until he retired. He also worked for MISD, post retirement. James united with Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of A.W. Washington. He was a faithful and dedicated member until his health began to fail. His favorite duty was serving on the Usher Board. James is survived by his loving wife, Geneva Merritt Harris; two daughters, Lorna D. Harris and LaQuori Q. Harris; and a special nephew, Ja'Kyrien Merritt. His surviving sisters include Johnnie V. Edwards, Mae Hudson (Cecil), Faye Brown (Anthony), all of Dallas, Texas, Margie Harris of Mesquite, Texas, Helen G. Mills of Marshall, Texas, and Velma "Diann" Brown of Jefferson, Texas. His surviving brothers include Carl Andrew "C.A." Harris, Sr., Roger Harris (Beverly), Ennis Harris, and Arthur Harris (Lois), also of Jefferson. He is also survived by a favorite uncle, Ercel "Uncle Son" Martin (Emogene); a favorite aunt, Roxie Durden of Jefferson; most special buddies, Manuel Flores, Sr. and Jimmy Durham, both of Midland; and by a host of other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends Friday, November 11, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home. Funeral service is set for Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 S. Main St. Reverend Kenneth Johnson will officiate.
