On Thursday, July 1, 2021, Maximo "Max" Cuellar, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 60. Max was born on July 14, 1960, in Stanton, TX, to the late Maximo Cuellar, Sr. and Silveria (Espinosa) Cuellar. He was raised in Midland, TX, and attended Midland High School until his freshman year.
Max enjoyed much of his time involved in city government: Keep Midland Beautiful, Midland Hispanic Chamber, Midland Hispanic Culture Center, Midland Community Development Center, Citizens on Patrol (COP), Crisis Intervention, and other charities and organizations.
Max was an entrepreneur at heart. He was once an owner of Tommy's Supermarket, Max Cuellar Contracting Company, and other real estate properties. His biggest accomplishment was a proclamation issued by Mayor Burns marking May 22, 2001, as Max Cuellar Day!
Max was a proud Midlander, Texan, and a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan.
Max is survived by his sons, Maximo "JR" Cuellar, III (wife Margie) and Christopher "Chris" Cuellar (wife Brandis); his mother, Silveria Cuellar; four sisters, Sylvia Cuellar of Midland, TX, Yolanda Cuellar of New Braunfels, TX, Vicky Sandoval (life partner Peter Ray Ybarra) of Midland, TX, Rosalinda Montero (Rigo) of New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren Megan Cuellar, Christian Cuellar, and Cayson Cuellar, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Maximo Cuellar, Sr. and his sister, Rosie Cuellar.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, from 1 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home & Chapel with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services is set for Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church at 2 p.m. with burial to follow.
